Sharing the Wasteland on Pinterest

I started sharing the coloring pages and art from Ember on Pinterest a while back, and it has been an unexpected bright spot in the process. There is something satisfying about watching a pin take on a life of its own, spreading across boards and into collections I will never see.

Pinterest is a visual medium, which makes it a natural fit for the wasteland. The landscapes, the characters, the muted color palette of survival and adaptation… the world of the valley translates well to still images. A single frame from a scene can carry more atmosphere than a paragraph of description when it lands right.

I have been pinning coloring pages from the book, character studies, and landscape concepts. Some of them are polished. Some are raw. The raw ones seem to do better, which tells me something about authenticity that I am still unpacking.

I also board inspiration. Real abandoned structures. Desert photography. Coyote and wolf reference images. The same kind of material I collected while building the world in the first place. It is strange to share the scaffolding instead of the finished building, but people seem to respond to it.
